I’m just a girl in the world….”
That’s me just a regular old, 40 plus, “American” girl, You know the type a mutt, mostly Scottish with a touch of German, English and Irish. I can’t speak another language. I am not athletically inclined, master of a musical talent or gifted in any special way. I am over educated which I am grateful for but that’s not getting me very far these days. I’m a mother to a beautiful and musically gifted girl and wife to the hardest working man I know.
But, I’m just a girl in the world….
That is why I started this blog. I what to be heard, my husband doesn’t always listen (come on spouses you can relate!), I feel like my child never listens….well as she would say “duh”! I was recently “let-go” from my position, one that I planned on retiring from and have no basis on which to fight the decision. My co-workers think I was set up, my husband thinks it’s ludicrous, my mom feels so bad for me, my mother-in-law wants to retaliate. But I’m just a girl in the world. I was recently told I was unemployable because I’m 40 plus and do not fall under any of the E.O.E categories. I’m not trying to start a debate or argument but being 40 plus and not being of any special race, creed, religion, color, or national origin gives me nothing extra to add to the argument that I was wrongfully terminated. I intentionally left out sex in that last sentence because I was recently told by a seasoned journalist that women’s rights are still way behind the times. I am a believer now. If I was considered a minority or even better a man, things would not have gone down the way they did.
So here I am, just a girl in the world, that’s me.
